State & Central is a beloved bar and grill nestled in Olympia's charming Bigelow Highlands neighborhood, precisely located on the iconic 'Workingman's Hill' just east of the downtown core. This establishment occupies a historically significant space that originally opened in 1935 as Gwen Gayle Grocery and Market, operated by sisters Lillian Phillips and Pearl Harder. The restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere where guests can enjoy classic pub fare including juicy burgers, hearty sandwiches, crispy fish and chips, comforting soups, fresh salads, and the Midwest favorite known as the 'Juicy Lucy' - a cheese-stuffed burger delight. The drink menu features twelve carefully curated craft beers and ciders alongside a fully stocked bar and handcrafted signature cocktails. One of the most distinctive features is the original Olympia Beer billboard from 1968, which was discovered as 'new old stock' and unveiled to the public for the first time on June 7th, 2017, now serving as a stunning backdrop on the back wall. Open Monday through Friday from 11am to 9pm and Saturday through Sunday from 9am to 9pm, State & Central has become a cornerstone gathering place where excellent food, refreshing drinks, and good company come together in perfect harmony.
