After contracting malaria during his Navy service in the South Pacific, Grant was advised to seek a dry climate for recovery, leading him to Phoenix where he staked his entire life savings of $900 on a fish and chips shop. Today, the family-owned chain operates eight locations across the Phoenix metropolitan area, including this West Van Buren restaurant near 27th Avenue.
