About
Moontown Brewing Company is a beloved craft brewery and brewpub located in the heart of Whitestown, Indiana, situated in the historic 1895 Whitestown Grade School building. This unique venue occupies what was once the community's school gymnasium, constructed between 1939 and 1941, featuring its original barrel-vaulted roof and restored steel-framed windows on the east and west walls. The brewery's journey began in the 2000s as a home brewing operation on the Hutton Farm in northeast Boone County, where all current owners participated in the brewing process. In 2015, Moontown won first place at the inaugural Whitestown Beer Fest, which inspired them to transform the abandoned school building into the thriving brewpub it is today. The team is led by Bobby, a Certified Cicerone and Director of Operations, alongside Head Brewer Jason and Executive Chef Ian, who creates farm-to-table dishes using locally sourced ingredients. The brewery features multiple distinct spaces including the 1915 Room, named for the year Whitestown High School was dedicated, which now serves as an event space with the original arched entrance from the grade school still visible. A highlight of the venue is the historic Bur Oak, planted in 1895, which fell naturally in 2015—the wood was salvaged and milled for use throughout the brewery. Open daily for lunch and dinner, Moontown offers a rotating selection of handcrafted ales and lagers, paired with elevated pub fare in a warm, nostalgic atmosphere that honors over a century of local history.
