About
Since 1980, Kazan Restaurant has been a beloved Washington institution nestled in the heart of McLean, Virginia. Chef-owner Zeynel Uzun and his family have been serving authentic Turkish cuisine from the same location for over four decades, creating a warm family atmosphere that keeps locals coming back. The restaurant gained legendary status when Chef Uzun prepared his signature orange baklava for Queen Elizabeth II during her 1971 state visit to Turkey—he was then a young chef at the renowned Topkapi Palace Restaurant in Istanbul. The dimly lit dining room with background Turkish music creates an intimate setting perfect for both romantic dinners and business gatherings. Lunch served Monday through Friday from 11:30am to 2pm features quick service ideal for professionals, while dinner Monday through Saturday from 5pm to 9pm allows for a more leisurely experience. Must-try dishes include the succulent doner kebab (served on specific days), the famous imam bayildi (Turkish eggplant appetizer), creamy hummus, tender dolma, and the legendary orange baklava. The menu also features excellent lamb dishes, sucuk kizartmasi (grilled lamb sausage with pickles), coban salatasi (Turkish shepherd's salad), and freshly baked bread that reviewers describe as tender, supple, and warm. Closed on Sundays. Reservations recommended by phone at 703-734-1960.
