Calandra's Italian Village in Caldwell, New Jersey, stands as a remarkable culinary destination that has been serving the community since 1962 when Luciano Calandra, an Italian immigrant, opened his first bakery in Newark. Now spanning three bakeries in Newark, Fairfield, and Caldwell, the Calandra family has created a sprawling Italian village under one roof that includes a bakery, Italian deli, Il Vecchio Cafe, and La Taverna Lounge. The bakery produces homemade bread, desserts, pastries, pies, cakes, and cookies with hot bread available every hour, continuing traditions that have earned them contracts with over 500 supermarkets, delis, and restaurants throughout the tri-state area. The Italian Market & Deli offers an impressive selection of cold Italian sandwiches, hot pressed panini, homemade soups, sauces, and fresh pastas. Il Vecchio Cafe serves homemade pastas, entrees, panini, burgers, and salads alongside pizzas and calzones made in their wood-burning oven using all-natural whole grain ingredients. La Taverna Lounge provides the perfect atmosphere for watching sports games with daily happy hours.
