Herwa Community Development Initiative

Herwa Community Development Initiative (Herwa CDI), based in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria, is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to fostering sustainable human capital development, improved livelihoods, and good governance across Northeast Nigeria. Established in 1999, Herwa CDI emerged in direct response to pressing regional challenges including high maternal mortality rates, pervasive low literacy levels, the rising prevalence of HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, and widespread poverty. Our core mission is to enhance community well-being through comprehensive programs that emphasize dialogue, advocacy, sensitization, and robust capacity building. We are committed to accountable, transparent, gender-sensitive, and inclusive programming, striving for easily accessible, gender-friendly health outcomes, significant literacy improvements, and the promotion of peaceful coexistence. Our work extends to critical areas such as the reintegration and reconciliation of ex-combatants, contributing to long-term stability and prosperity in the region.
