Champs traditional pie and mash

I really wanted to like this place, but sadly I didn’t enjoy the food at all. I’ve never had traditional Cockney pie and mash before, and if this is truly authentic, then I won’t be rushing to have it again. It’s perhaps no surprise you don’t see this style of pie much outside the East End. The mash had no seasoning or creaminess to it, and the liquor was just watery and bland. The pie filling was okay at best, but the pastry was terrible. Even the pigeons outside turned their nose up at it. The ladies serving were genuinely lovely and friendly, and I wish them all the best, but the food itself was a real letdown. It’s nothing like the rich, flavourful pies you’d find in a good pub. Worth knowing too that there’s only one filling (mince) and just three tables inside, so it’s mostly takeaway. Overall, a disappointing experience. Cheers.
