The Phoenicians settled in Puig de Vila and founded an area in the bay that became the original core of the city towards the end of the seventh century B.C. C. The necropolis is the cemetery of the ancient Phoenician city and Ebusus Carthaginian, and succeeded reach an extension of almost 10,000 m2. today it is possible observe 350 Carthaginian hypogea. The name Puig des Molins („Windmill Mountain“) indicates that there used to be mills wind on top of this hill.
